2022-01 Australia Day Breakfast and Display MANY MAKES
Our Australia Day Breakfast and Display was very successful. Our display was exclusively for cars made/manufactured, bodied or assembled in Australia. The theme was "what we used to be able to make". Our oldest car was Kevin's 1913 Australian-bodied Fiat and the youngest Ian's 2006 Australian- made/manufactured Holden Adventra. This album features the many makes (except Holdens) that were displayed at Telarah Bowling Club on Australia Day morning..- Greg and Margaret, with their Holden VB Commodore SLE, keeping an eye of the competition from other makes that were either Australian made/manufactured, bodied, or assembled.
- Daryl with his excellently restored and presented 1927 Chrysler with it's lovely Australian body.
- Bob's 1926 Rolls Royce is a dual national concourse trophy winner. One of the trophies was for its magnificent Australian coachwork.
- Ann and Lindsay have owned their very original Chrysler Valiant since new. It is one of the very last Valiants built in Australia.
- Andrew and Julie with their dogs. In the background is Andrew's highly desirable Valiant Charger.
- Paul displayed his lovely Australian assembled Rambler Classic, with its lovely Australian body. Many of these cars were used by the police forces in Australia as transport for detectives and higher ranking officers.
- Narelle and Peter with their recently restored Leyland Mini Moke. These were uniquely Australian-made cars that were very popular around our beaches in the 1970s.
- Ryan with his very original XT Ford Falcon 500. These cars gave the HK and HT Holdens of the day very stiff competition.
- John with his XT Falcon resplendend with original accessories, and Australian flags for Australia Day. The XR to XY Falcons of the late 1960s and early 1970s are very collectable cars.
- Trevor with his very flash Ford Falcon. Cars like this on the road bring back great memories of the glory days of the "Big Three" manufacturers in Australia and of series production motor racing.
- Kevin with the oldest car on display, his 1913 Fiat with its Australian body. Right up to World War II and beyond, many cars were imported into Australia as a rolling chasis, then fitted with Australian-built bodies. This was to minimise import duties.
- Peter seen here with his imported Ford Mustang. This reminds us of the tremendous impact the Mustang had on the performance cars built in Australia from the mid-1960s, especially the XR Ford Falcon which was advertised as "Mustang bred".
- Ken and Vicki with their Australian-assembled Datsun 1600. These cars, released in Australia in the late 1960s, were an instant hit with the public and enjoyed a very successful rallying career.
- Graeme and Jill with their iconic Ford Falcon Fairmont XY V8. The XW and XY Falcons spawned the legendary GTHOs that won Bathurst in 1970 and 1971 in the hands of Alan Moffat.
- Jackie's Triumph Herald, like many post-war British cars, was assembled in Australia. Later in the decade, many cars of British origin were manufactured in Sydney, at Zetland, culminating in the Leyland P76.
- Michael's Leyland Mini Van has classic written all over it. These vans were very popular in the 1970s as a recreational vehicle. As a delivery van they had a surprising amount of rear space.
- Neil with his Australian built Ford Capri convertible, with an admiring Sharon and David looking on. These cars were part of Ford's export drive in the 1990s.
- Alan's Ford Escort was Australian-built in the 1970s. This is an excellent example of a very popular 'smallish' car (by Falcon standards). Alan has some valuable and interesting memorabilia an example of such he is holding.
- Some of Alan's collectables (see next photo) include this Australian conceived, designed and built Victa lawn mower. Here we have fuel cans and a fabulous toy mower that makes it appear that the big mower has had a baby.
- Mick and Irene with their Australian-assembled Austin A90. These cars are quite rare and under-rated. They have a slightly detuned Austin Healy 6 cyclinder motor, disc brakes, and very brisk performance.
